This Langostino Mushroom Sour Cream Gravy is a rich, creamy, and comforting dish perfect for serving over mashed potatoes, rice, pasta, or crusty bread. • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

For the Langostino and Mushrooms:

  • 1 lb (450g) langostino tails, cooked and thawed if frozen
  • 2 tablespoons butter (or olive oil for dairy-free)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 cup mushrooms (cremini or button), sliced
  • ½ small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika (optional, for depth)

For the Sour Cream Gravy:

  • 1 tablespoon butter (or olive oil)
  • 1 tablespoon gluten-free all-purpose flour (or regular flour)
  • ½ cup chicken or seafood broth
  • ½ cup sour cream (or dairy-free alternative like coconut cream)
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (use gluten-free version if needed)
  • ½ teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon fresh thyme (or ¼ teaspoon dried)

For Serving (Optional):

  • Mashed potatoes, rice, pasta, or crusty bread
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

1. Sauté the Mushrooms and Aromatics:

  1. Heat butter and olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add mushrooms and onions, and sauté for 4–5 minutes until softened.
  3. Stir in garlic, salt, black pepper, and smoked paprika, cooking for 30 seconds until fragrant.

2. Prepare the Gravy:

  1. In the same skillet, add 1 tablespoon butter and let it melt.
  2. Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute to remove the raw taste.
  3. Slowly pour in chicken or seafood broth, whisking continuously to prevent lumps.
  4. Stir in Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, salt, black pepper, and thyme.
  5. Simmer for 3–4 minutes until slightly thickened.

3. Add Sour Cream and Langostino:

  1. Lower the heat and stir in sour cream, mixing well to create a smooth, creamy sauce.
  2. Gently fold in langostino tails and let them warm through for 1–2 minutes.
  3. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.

4. Serve and Enjoy:

  1. Spoon the langostino mushroom sour cream gravy over mashed potatoes, rice, or pasta.
  2. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve hot.

Notes

  • For extra flavor: Add a splash of white wine before adding the broth.
  • To prevent sour cream from curdling: Stir it in off the heat or mix it with a bit of warm broth before adding.
  • For a thicker gravy: Simmer longer or add ½ teaspoon cornstarch mixed with water.
  • Make it dairy-free: Use olive oil instead of butter and coconut cream or cashew cream instead of sour cream.
