- ½ teaspoon smoked paprika (optional, for depth)
For the Sour Cream Gravy:
- 1 tablespoon butter (or olive oil)
- 1 tablespoon gluten-free all-purpose flour (or regular flour)
- ½ cup chicken or seafood broth
- ½ cup sour cream (or dairy-free alternative like coconut cream)
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (use gluten-free version if needed)
- ½ teaspoon Dijon mustard
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon fresh thyme (or ¼ teaspoon dried)
For Serving (Optional):
- Mashed potatoes, rice, pasta, or crusty bread
- Fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
1. Sauté the Mushrooms and Aromatics:
- Heat butter and olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add mushrooms and onions, and sauté for 4–5 minutes until softened.
- Stir in garlic, salt, black pepper, and smoked paprika, cooking for 30 seconds until fragrant.
2. Prepare the Gravy:
- In the same skillet, add 1 tablespoon butter and let it melt.
- Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute to remove the raw taste.
- Slowly pour in chicken or seafood broth, whisking continuously to prevent lumps.
- Stir in Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, salt, black pepper, and thyme.
- Simmer for 3–4 minutes until slightly thickened.
3. Add Sour Cream and Langostino:
- Lower the heat and stir in sour cream, mixing well to create a smooth, creamy sauce.
- Gently fold in langostino tails and let them warm through for 1–2 minutes.
- Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
4. Serve and Enjoy:
- Spoon the langostino mushroom sour cream gravy over mashed potatoes, rice, or pasta.
- Garnish with fresh parsley and serve hot.
Notes
- For extra flavor: Add a splash of white wine before adding the broth.
- To prevent sour cream from curdling: Stir it in off the heat or mix it with a bit of warm broth before adding.
- For a thicker gravy: Simmer longer or add ½ teaspoon cornstarch mixed with water.
- Make it dairy-free: Use olive oil instead of butter and coconut cream or cashew cream instead of sour cream.
